National Park
“SIGHTSEEING and/or HIKING - Depending on where you access the park, travel time is between 1 and 1 1/2 hours. We recommend Cataloochee for viewing elk, or Oconaluftee for access into the heart of the Great Smokies.”

“Be sure to take a trip through the beautiful National Park. Stop at the visitor center on the way in for a great overview. The main entrance to the park is by way of Hwy 441 through Cherokee. Plan for an entire day in the park . There is a Another entrance to the park by way of downtown Bryson city. However that is a limited access area and does not take you through the entire park. ”

“Very cool and very popular place. It has an 11 mile loop that can be viewed from your car which is great for families. Be aware: it's a popular place and can have some heavy traffic at times. Plan to spend some time here as it can take awhile!”

“Another must for the area! It's worth the venture. Good quantity and quality of home cooking Southern food, especially for the price! Everyone leaves satisfied, but still ready to come back for more. Our favorites: the corn chowder, the maple butter, and the chicken and dumplings!”

“The Dixie Stampede Dinner Attraction in Pigeon Forge, which initially opened in 1988, is the first of three locations currently featuring Dolly Parton’s famous show. The dinner attraction features 32 highly trained horses, dozens of cast members, pyrotechnics, special effects, brief lumberjack competition, pig races, ostrich races, and much more! Since the entire show is centered around a friendly competition between the North and the South, you will be competing with your friends on the other side of the arena. The show is very entertaining and some of the spectacular horse stunts seemed like a combination of a rodeo and Blue Angles airshow presentation. In addition to the main show, Dixie Stampede has a pre-show that starts approximately 50 minutes prior to the ticketed showtime. The pre-show entertainment, which is in the Dixie Belle Saloon, features a talented Bluegrass and Country band, Mountain Ruckus. During the pre-show, guests can purchase souvenir boot cups (filled with soda) and various snacks. Trust me on this — don’t purchase the overpriced popcorn or peanuts. Once you see the huge portions they feed you during the show, you will thank me. After watching the servers juggle trays of hot soup and pitchers of drinks, I would not be surprised to see Dixie Stampede table serving become an Olympic sport. It was quite impressive to watch the servers feed the masses assembly-line style and keep hundreds of mason jars filled. The servers use a system to make sure the glasses are always filled with the appropriate beverage – after the initial drink order, the server did not have to ask anyone on our entire row what they were drinking. The servers work for tips and the Dixie Stampede announcer suggests visitors tip 15% of the total ticket price (bring cash). The quality of the food was surprisingly good and vegetarian meals are available upon request. Due to the number of people being served, I was expecting the food to be low-quality, but it far exceeded my expectations. The meal, which is served without utensils, includes creamy vegetable soup, an entire rotisserie chicken, smoked pork loin, homemade biscuits, corn-on-the-cob, potatoes, and fried apple turnover. The four-course meal included and more calories than any human should consume in one sitting and is one of the best dinner show meals in the area. Although Dolly Parton does not normally make an appearance, a music video of her singing Color Me America along and the cast performing is the grand finale.”

“Everything about The Pottery House Cafe and Grille exudes comfort -- from the cozy cabin-like exterior to dishes piled high with the best of Southern comfort food. Like stopping by a favorite aunt's home for a warm meal, you leave The Pottery House feeling full and cared for. Definitely worth the trip. Their impressively large menu offers something for everyone, including: Country appetizers like homemade potato chips, fried chicken livers, pimento cheese cup, spinach artichoke dip, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, and Tennessee black bean twisters. Soups are all served with warm bread from the bakery and include tomato basil, French onion, loaded baked potato, and whatever the soup of the day may be. If you’d like, you can order your soup served in a homemade bread bowl. Quiche and salads. Choices include quiche and a house salad, quiche and strawberry spinach salad, quiche with fresh fruit, and quiche with a bowl of soup. When it comes to salads, longtime Pottery House favorites include spinach muenster, chicken almond, and the chef’s selection of the day. Combos offer match-ups like soup with a country ham sandwich, soup with a chicken salad sandwich, and soup with a pimento cheese sandwich. If you’d prefer to build a combo of your own, that’s okay too. For example, you can easily make it a strawberry spinach salad and loaded baked potato. The restaurant makes it easy for you to customize. Other options include chicken tenders, grilled chicken breast, fried catfish, grilled garden panini, shaved country ham sandwich, grilled club, cheese steak sandwich, rib eye steak sandwich (topped with peppers, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and melted provolone cheese), roast beef sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, pulled pork barbeque sandwich, fried green tomato BLT, and a chicken quesadilla wrap. Burgers are plentiful and feature black angus, potter’s, smokehouse, and pimento burgers. Specialties include the buttermilk chicken melt, spring chicken gumbo, vegetable plate, shrimp and grits, grilled salmon, praline grilled pork chops, bacon and blue chopped steak, and the Old Mill Sirloin. You can eat them as they’re served or add sautéed mushrooms, onions, peppers, or garlic for a small upcharge. Insider Tip: If you’re visiting the area, you might want to plan a quick trip back to your accommodations to drop off leftovers. The portions are so large it is likely someone in your party will have them.”

“Anakeesta is absolutely worth the wait in line and the price to catch these one-of-a-kind views! Whether you want to soak it all in from a suspended bridge or prefer to enjoy the view comfortably seated in an Adirondack chair, you will thank yourself for making the trip up the mountainside. The half star deduction is for small glitches in customer service that need to be worked through. Insider Tips: Although you will likely enjoy Anakeesta from your first experience up the mountain, it’s a place you’re going to want to visit time and again. Parts of the village are under construction with plans to open a restaurant, amphitheater, and single rail mountain coaster. It appears to be growing into itself with management receptive to criticism and suggestions. If you have kids with you, make sure to keep an eye (or hand) on them around the Adirondack chairs, fire pit, and the Interpretive Trail as there are no rails to protect them from falls. That said, make it a point to allow them to play in the Children’s Treehouse Village Playground where interconnected multiple bridges are designed to build strength and confidence. By the time your children are done crawling through the tube net, climbing walls and going on a bird hunt, they might just be pooped out enough to nap during the ride back down the mountain. In Gatlinburg for a family reunion or get-together with old school friends? Anakeesta offers group rates that are worth checking out.”

“Now in it’s sixth year of business Elvira’s Cafe has become the community’s favorite place to catch up and chow down. With an excellent team in the kitchen and some of the friendliest waitresses in Tennessee, it is easy to see why Elvira’s home away from home has become the place to be for home made food in a warm and inviting environment. You will be impressed. They use local ingredients and farm fresh food makes all the difference.”
