Teatr
“Ireland's National Theatre, The Abbey Theatre stages world class plays by Irish and international playwrights. If you're planning your trip in advance it's well work checking out the early bird tickets and previews; some tickets can be as cheap as €9! They also run free previews on certain shows- check out their website for details. The Peacock is also part of The Abbey but via a different entrance. If booking, make sure to know if it's The Abbey or The Peacock.”

“These gardens are one of the most famous memorial gardens in Europe. They are dedicated to the memory of 49,400 Irish soldiers who died in the 1914 – 1918 war. The names of all the soldiers are contained in the beautifully illustrated Harry Clarke manuscripts in the granite bookrooms in the gardens. These gardens are not only a place of remembrance but are also of great architectural interest and beauty. They are one of four gardens in this country designed by the famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869-1944). The others being Heywood Gardens (see p.63), Lambay Island and those in Howth Castle. Sunken rose gardens, herbaceous borders and extensive tree planting make for an enjoyable visit to the gardens in any season.”

Farm
“A historic house holding important collections, an art gallery, a working farm, and the official Irish State guest house, Farmleigh House and Estate is open seven days a week, all year round. An estate of seventy-eight acres situated to the north-west of Dublin’s Phoenix Park, Farmleigh provides accommodation for visiting dignitaries and guests of the nation. As a historic house, Farmleigh remains a unique representation of its heyday, the Edwardian period, and houses important artworks and furnishings, as well as the Benjamin Iveagh collection of rare books, bindings, and manuscripts which is held in the Library. ”

“The grounds at Howth Castle are beautiful at all times of year. One of my favourite places to walk my dogs, whatever the weather! The castle itself is a private family home (the family have lived there for 600 years!) but they welcome walkers and visitors to walk the grounds. Wonderful views across North Dublin and the sea if you walk up past the Castle to the upper car park. For even better views take a short hike up through the Rhododendron trail up to the rocky outcrops above the estate which provide an almost 360 view of Dublin Bay and the city.”

“This is the main street of the city. Highlights on and around O'Connell Street include: The historic General Post Office where the 1916 rebellion started, the Hugh Lane Art Gallery, the popular shopping area Henry street and the vibrant market stretch Moore Street, with colourful street traders and ethnic shops. The main drag is very busy, but the best parts are on the side streets surrounding it!”
