Life on the Osa Peninsula is simple and casual. Beach clothes and swimsuits are the usual attire.
Especially important items: proper footwear for hiking and water activities; at least 20 SPF sunscreen.

Suggested things to bring:

• Quick drying clothes
• T-shirts, tank tops, shorts
• Long-sleeved shirt and lightweight pants for San Jose
• Binoculars if desired
• Suggested footwear:
• Sport sandals;
• Sneakers for long hikes, We have a few rain boots that we provide with different sizes
• "Aqua sox" (mesh and rubber water shoes) for ocean or creeks; Flip flops and/or crocs
• Sunscreen (at least 20 SPF. At 8 degrees from the equator, 50+ is better).
• Sun hat
• Sunglasses
• Insect repellent
• Antibiotic ointment and bandaids
• Swimmer’s ear prevention drops
• Camera
• Books
• Cash if you are purchasing meals and for the gas money.
• Tipping is optional but always welcome

When you arrive at the San Jose International airport there are plenty of taxis. As regards money, everyone accepts U.S. dollars. Generally, you can expect that things will cost about what they do at home. Some items, like most produce, are less, but this is a good general guideline. For a cash advance, there is a back with ATM machines in Palmar Norte. If the machines don’t work you can go into the bank. (For this you will need to present a passport). As regards credit cards, most places in the area accept them. As for cash, Costa Rican colones and US dollars are universally accepted. For the gas money and if you are going to purchase meal with Raquel we only take cash. (Dollars or Colones at the current exchange rate of the day) If you ant to change USD to colones when you arrive in the baggage claim area. There are two money changers there that give the bank rate. If you go to a bank, you will have to wait; sometimes an hour to change money.

If you fly into Palmar Norte, you could take a Taxi to Sierpe about 15 minute ride and Luis will pick you up in Sierpe in our boat. You will only have to pay for the gasoline of this trip.
If you fly to Drake Bay you could take a water taxi that goes to Sierpe at 3:30pm. ($20pp) Tell the captain the you are getting off in Pailon Luis will pick yo up there in our motor boat.

Because the house has a solar fridge and small if you want ice for drinks, etc. you should get bags of ice when you buy groceries. We have extra coolers.
If you are purchasing the meals your ice will be include. Raquel, (Luis wife twin sister), has her own little cooking business and is a wonderful cook.
We recommend hiring her for a taste of Tico cuisine. $8 pp for Breakfast, $12pp for Lunch and $15pp for dinner.
You have the options of purchasing all 3 meals or just one. Please let me know at least 1 week before your arrival if you are purchasing meals and if you have any allergies since Raquel has to travel to Palmar to have get supplies.

The house is equipped with toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, log lighter, salt & pepper, sugar, hand soap, dish soap, sponge, and a Tico-style coffee maker that makes great coffee. The water at the house is pure and delicious, originating from our natural spring so no need to buy bottled water. If you prefer to purchase bottle water please doit in Sierpe or Palmar Norte since there are no stores near by.

We strongly recommend you buy more food than you think you’ll need. Most of us are used to the conveniences of civilization and being able to go to the store whenever we want something. But you have left civilization! It’s easier to have plenty to eat on hand than to spend your vacation time going back into town for food.

When you arrive Luis will be waiting for you. Make yourself at home. He does not not speak English, but communicates well even if you don’t speak Spanish.
HOUSE, etc. INFO

In the interest of conservation and the ecosystem, the house is cleaned, sheets and towels replaced, and beds made every 3 days. If your sheets don't need to be changed, let us know and we'll skip the change of linens, and just make the bed. (There is an extra sheet in each bedroom in case you get cold at night. If you want cleaning more often, let the staff know. If you need more of anything, just ask.
Laundry services are available for $5/load
When you leave, please be sure to leave your keys to the bedrooms. Also, just leave any food you are not taking in the kitchen. It will not go to waste!
