Come experience living in a round structure filled with amenities-fully equipped kitchen, deep tub, heating and AC, shared hot tub and seasonal salt water pool. Great for couples, friends, and families. A 10 minute hike gets you into Shenandoah National Park or explore our 58 acres on numerous walking trails. Visit Charlottesville, historical sites, caves, or play in rivers in central Virginia. Child friendly- no pets.

Welcome to Cair Paravel Farmstead! Located 2000 feet up in the Blue Ridge Mountains up a mile and a half state maintained narrow steep gravel road, our 30 ft. diameter Blue Ridge Yurt Company yurt has everything you could ask for: a romantic getaway for two or an escape for friends and family up to six.

Perched on the mountainside above the barn you are able to see and listen to the farm creatures. It is a delightful experience to try to identify the various sounds coming from the barn and the surrounding forest. You will be able to hear the roosters crow and the Great Pyrenees livestock protection dogs barking and doing their jobs. The wild bird chorus starts before dawn. We are a small working farmstead and you will hear the domestic and wild creatures that are residents on the mountain. If you anticipate that the sounds will disturb you we suggest that you bring your own noise canceling device or earplugs.

Cair Paravel is a sustainable farm that seeks to apply the principles of permaculture and biodynamic agriculture with the goal to maintain a minimal footprint upon the earth.

The posted standard rate is $185/night/one bed/double occupancy. Additional guests are $30 a night per person. Weekends we have a two night minimum. Maximum occupancy 6 persons including infants. Rates may vary dependent upon season, holidays, and/or special events.

+NO PETS due to the livestock located on the property as well as allergens being trapped in the cloth inner structure.
+NO Hair Dying- additional $50.00 clean-up fee will be charged

Remember the Yurt is essentially a large tent. The walls and ceiling are R-11. the floor is R-32. The windows are cover with screen and a removable vinyl cover. The keep the Yurt warmer in winter unroll the exterior R-11 insulated window covering and zip up the sides. In summer lowering the exterior cloth flaps during the day to block the sun will keep the Yurt cooler.

We provide a self-guided Farm Tour for our registered guests. Guided hands-on Farm Tours are available April-October. More information and reservation information is on the website.

There are many area attractions and activities- hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, visiting Monticello or Montpelier, following the Monticello Wine Trail or the Brew Ridge Trail, and checking out the work of Virginia Artisans in the local shop: Noon Whistle Pottery. We are close to both Charlottesville and Harrisonburg. For other activities and attractions check out our guidebook.

If you are considering hiking take a look at Hiking Upward. The site has great maps and descriptions of the trails as wells as a great rating system.

Whitt is a retired executive Chef who has worked in all types of hospitality environments for 35 years. Martha, is a retired educator. Managing a small country Inn and restaurant for 12 of those years has given us ample experience to create and manage our unique Yurt as well as our other lodgings. My family and I are in process of creating a self supporting and sustainable farm homestead and lodgings and we offer welcome to one and all. In addition to our enterprises we are grateful stewards of nearly 60 acres of spectacular mountain land, most of which is as undisturbed as possible with an easily accessible nature trail winding throughout the property. As a working farm we also have a multitude of gentle critters and an abundance of home grown foods.
Whitt grew up in Hawaii and knows well about relaxing and enjoying life and all it has to offer, and believe we have created a place where everyone can share in the same.

Martha grew up in Bethesda, a suburb just outside of DC and spent every possible moment at Cair Paravel. Now retired from teaching and educational administration I spend my days at the farm or volunteering the the Virginia Master Naturalists.

Other folks you may see on the farm are Madi, Grant, Mark and Ruth. Madi and Grant (photo with goats) work with the animals and gardens. Mark is the master of the trails and you may see Ruth running.

We love to greet our "Yurters" when you arrive and show you around the yurt as well as provide suggestions for local hikes, activities, and dining. We will then leave you to enjoy your privacy and solitude.

It is important to note that we are located in the mountains. The small town of Stanardsville is around 15 minutes away. There is a small rural grocery store and some small restaurants. Charlottesville and Harrisonburg- the major dining and entertainment areas- are about 40 minutes from the farm.

The Cair Paravel Farmhouse is just a short walk down the mountain though since we are an operating farm we are frequently out and about. Please call or text and we will respond as soon as we are able. Our private family time begins at 6:00 PM.
