Bluebell is a lovingly hand-built shepherd's hut in Sussex offering a two-night escape from modern life. Tucked away in our idyllic one-acre ancient copse, you'll awake to birdsong, dappled sunlight & true seclusion next to a Woodland Trust meadow where deer roam at dusk and buzzards wheel. Bluebell has a well-equipped capsule kitchen, wood-burner, fire pit, 4ft-wide bed with memory foam mattress, safari-style solar shower & concealed off-road parking. NB: WC 100 metres away. No WiFi!

Miejsce
Our hill-side location in the glorious South Downs National Park is an idyllic country retreat and totally secluded, being reached by a narrow lane, and surrounded by its own private grounds which are a wildlife haven for many rare species of plants, fungi, butterflies, dragonflies and birds. There is a profusion of wild flowers for much of the year and a number of species of orchid.

Bluebell is located in it's own enchanting woodland - a one-acre ancient coppice including hazel and standard oak trees. Adjacent is the Woodland Trust land which is separated by a stream and a little bridge with a small five-bar gate for your private use. There are plentiful walks from the door in all directions into the neighbouring 500-acre ancient beech forest and Sussex Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve called The Mens. It's also a lovely 20-minute walk from here to the River Arun and her beautiful floodplain, easily accessible down an ancient track leading to the unspoiled valley below.

Bluebell's fully-equipped capsule kitchenette features a fridge, two-ring cooker, toaster, kettle and Moroccan basin for light washing up, with instant-use hot water tap for washing. There is a flip-down table which you can stow in order to enjoy the tiny but cosy wood-burner.

You will have the sole use of Bluebell during your stay as well as exclusive use of our one-acre copse with woodland cooking area, Dutch oven and fire pit. Wood will be provided.

You can wander in the copse and exit the property through your private gate into the seven-acre Woodland Trust meadow where you are also free to wander, walk and have picnics.

In keeping with Bluebell's rustic charm, there is a safari-style solar shower with a timber roof in a nearby glade, and it is a 100-metre walk down a sun-dappled woodland path to the WC in my workshop.

We are 2.5 miles from the hamlet of Fittleworth and its award-winning Community Shop with deli and wonderful produce. 2.5 miles in the opposite direction is the pretty village of Wisborough Green with its beautiful village green, Post Office, tea room and two fantastic Sussex pubs - The Cricketers and The Bat and Ball.
Petworth, the international centre for antiques, is a 10 minute drive and there are a multitude of places to eat there. We are 50 minutes drive from Brighton; 30 minutes from Chichester; 40 minutes from the beaches at West Wittering, Bognor and Climping.

Billingshurst Railway Station is 5 miles away and a £17 taxi journey. You are welcome to park in our secure shingle driveway next to our farm gate. Your car will be safe and secure there.

This is the perfect retreat for walkers, writers, and those who wish to recharge read, wander and dream in an extremely quiet, rural location. Bluebell, who has been featured in the national press, is located in a traditional one-acre hazel and oak copse in the South Downs National Park. She is also next to a 500-acre ancient beech forest riven with footpaths, streams and magical places to discover.

* Please note, this is an exclusive glamping experience in a unique location and is only available for a limited number (28) nights each year. Due to the natural beauty of the setting, and the lack of a plumbed shower, we only allow stays of a maximum of three nights *

* Please note, the woodland paths are uneven and you will be provided with a torch at night. The basin in Bluebell is suitable for light washing up only. There is no wifi but you can get a mobile signal in the copse and sometimes in the shepherd's hut. There is a taller-than-average step into the shepherd's hut; the bed is accessed up a small four-rung ladder as it is somewhat higher than a standard bed. There is loose stone paving outside to minimise the footprint on the ancient copse and in keeping with Bluebell's light touch on the landscape*

A unique part of the South Downs National Park, inhabited for generations by writers and artists, and where ancient footpaths remain unchanged in the adjacent beech forest called The Mens. Here you can walk for hours and not see another soul, or just enjoy a picnic in the sun-dappled shade of majestic trees where the air quality is so pure lichen adorns the branches. We are 5 miles from Sainsburys/Tescos in Pulborough. 2.5 miles from both Fittleworth which has a community shop and deli, and Wisborough Green with its beautiful village green, Post Office and tea room.

I'm an author, journalist and picture framer who has had a 30-year-long love affair with Morocco. I've created several homes with Moroccan interiors in the UK, including a house featured on Grand Designs in 2001, having first visited Essaouira three decades ago. At that point, the route to Marrakesh was a dusty B-road and much of Essaouira's new town was nothing more than wind-tousled sand. It has long been my dream to own a holiday home in Morocco, and I'm delighted to share Dar Azrak - The Azure House - with you. I hope you will enjoy the creativity, crafts and cafés that define this beautiful North-African Atlantic coastal town.
