The stunning Agden House, nestled up against Caergwrle Castle Hill is a freshly renovated four bedroomed home from home. With views over Rhyddyn Hill it is ideal situated for exploring Chester, Liverpool (from the local station) and North Wales, not to mention Caergwrle's own castle, the haunted bridge (Packhorse Bridge), Hope Mountain and many many footpaths.

The house itself is set in its own grounds with a picnic table allowing visitors to enjoy the local views.

Miejsce
Agden House was built at the turn of century and occupied by same family until 2018 when the property was purchased and renovated by the current owners.

It is a traditional house originally with a large kitchen, lounge and dining room on the ground floor. A utility/wc has now been added. Upstairs, there is a family sized bathrrom with a roll top bath and separate shower, and four bedrooms - the main double room, a smaller double, a room with bunk beds and a single.

More photos of the interior will be added shortly.

Dostęp dla gości
The whole house and gardens.

Inne ważne rzeczy
Caergwrle has a number of really great eating places. We love Honey's bakery with its gorgeous seating area by the river. The Country Spice Indian restaurant is excellent and the Kowloon Chinese take-away has excellent reviews. And, of course, if you wish to cook at home, Caergwrle has it's own butcher and convenience store. Lidl is only a short drive away with Wrexham town centre and the market town of Mold but being easily accessed.

The area is beautiful, gorgeous walks by the river and in the forest. Park in the Past in Hope with open water swimming and kayaking is a must.

Caergwrle is steeped in history.

From Wikipedia:

The 13th-century, ruined Caergwrle Castle was first built by Tywysog (Prince) Dafydd ap Gruffydd, in lands agreed with Edward I of England during his invasion of Wales in 1277. Dafydd, in agreeing not to resist the invasion, had extensive improvements made to his castle at Edward's expense. In 1282 however, Dafydd bought his time and raised the banner of revolt, marching on Hawarden Castle controlled by Edward's invaders. Dafydd and his men seized the castle. Dafydd's brother, Llywelyn ap Gruffydd the Prince of Wales, was then drawn into what became the Welsh Wars of Independence. When Llywelyn was beheaded by one of Edward's mercenaries in 1282, Dafydd ap Gruffydd then became Prince of Wales from 11 December 1282 until his execution on 3 October 1283 by King Edward I of England. He was the last independent ruler of Wales until Owain Glyndwr's uprising in the 15th Century.

The village originally had the English placename of Corley, but with the addition of the Welsh placename epithet "Caer", meaning "fortress", the name gradually took on Welsh characteristics. To explain the name, a myth developed of a giant named Gwrle, who was supposed to have lived in the castle and been buried in the nearby Neolithic burial mound at Cefn-y-bedd.[3][4]

The 17th-century Packhorse Bridge, which is reputed to be haunted, was nearly destroyed by flooding in 2000, though it has since been restored. There have been many other developments and restorations in Caergwrle.

Caergwrle is also home to a Welsh International football player George Alfred Godding who played from 17 March 1923 to 14 April 1923 with two caps for Wales.

Caergwrle's long association with the adjacent village of Hope has given rise to a well-known local joke: "Live in Hope, die in Caergwrle".[5] This was already described as an "old saying" in the 19th century, when it was recorded by the antiquarian John Askew Roberts.[6]

The house is situated in its own grounds close to honey's cafe and bakery which has outside seating area from which views of the river can be enjoyed, a short distance away is the Bombay Sizzler indian restaurant and the Kowloon Chinese take away with an abundance of traditional pubs and other eateries in the neighbourhood and adjoining villages.
