Miejsce
The house is on 3 levels (with staircases to each level) with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor, the living areas and master bedroom and ensuite on the main floor and then a private third bedroom on the lower floor. Because of this layout the house is a perfect base for not only a family or group of friends but also ideal for a couple who wish to just get away from it all.

There are 2 living/dining areas, which both have their own fireplace. 1 indoor with a woodburner for winter heating, and 1 covered outdoor with a large open fire (fire restrictions depending) for those evening debrief sessions following a busy day at the beach or exploring further afield. There is also outdoor dining on the large front deck for taking in the gorgeous views all day long.

The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of space for enjoying at home catering and the BBQ is close by for those Kiwi classic meals.

Kayaks are available by prior arrangement.

Car parking is on the driveway with room for 3 cars (maximum). Please note the driveway is very steep and parking is best accessed by reversing in.

Due to the layout of the interior we are unable to accept young children (under age 6) sorry.

Please note the listing is for a maximum 6 guests only. Should you wish to bring more than this number please enquire for prior approval (Additional costs apply)

Beach stairs are a Shared access way - Stairway and outdoor fire area and up the driveway is a shared access route for the residents of the cottage at the bottom due to tide. Please be aware they may walk through this route though it will not be frequently

This area of Te Wahapu peninsular is steeped in history and there is evidence of the early european settlement here even today.
The Cedar Lodge property is home to Knock and Bottle Historic cottage (privately owned). The cottage was originally erected prior to 1846. The original buildings were built and occupied by Henry Green Smith, United States Acting Consul, and friend of Hone Heke. In 1846 the British army's 58th detachment occupied Te Wahapu for over ten years. They erected a flagstaff and a parade ground was established by reclaiming part of the sea bed. This can be viewed by taking a short walk up the beach toward the reserve on the point (Nobbys Point). The 65th regiment of Foot, the York and Lancaster, took over from them.
Te wahapu was once the most populated spot in the Bay of Islands. Gilbert Mair bought land on Te Wahapu peninsula and built up a work force of shoe-makers, carpenters, ship builders and other tradesman. At one time there were as many as 38 whaling ships in port for repairs and trade in the very bay infront of the property.

The cottage was originally two army barracks joined into one. It was rumored to have bottle shop at one end and a pleasure shop on the other.
One of the finest of New Zealand's shipyards the firm Lane and Brown well known for their work in New Zealand and overseas was located halfway between "the barracks" and "Dr Ford, the local Dr's" house, the same area as the cottage.

My husband and I have 3 young children and are lucky enough to call the Bay of Islands our home. I firmly believe when travelling that you truly get to know and appreciate a place so much more when you can stay and experience life like a local. Because of this I love the opportunities that Airbnb can provide for both myself and those staying in the houses I look after. I take care of several properties in the area and get great enjoyment from meeting new people from all over the world and sharing in their experiences of our beautiful area. As a family we love to get outside as much as possible. Whether its pottering around home in our garden, heading out to the beach or getting out on the water for some fishing.
