Meet Green-Beard's Yurt, a rustically gorgeous gem in a delightful setting. This off-grid retreat is located in the foothills of Alberta's Rocky Mountains, on a 13 acre, family-run, equine hobby ranch in a stunningly beautiful, private forest. The yurt overlooks a quiet, peaceful meadow and is surrounded by trees with not another rental in sight. Enjoy evening sunsets from the boardwalk, cycling loops off your doorstep, and pristine, internationally acclaimed wilderness parks a short drive away.

Miejsce
Green-Beard's Yurt offers a clean, minimalist, rustic and open-concept space designed for 1-2 guests. This south-facing, woodsy retreat comes equipped with a pellet stove fireplace, propane BBQ, a queen bed, indoor toilet, and an outdoor shower. Guests looking for together time can walk the on-site labyrinth and spend time stargazing, or take bikes out the gate to a popular cycling loop and explore scenic Grand Valley Road.

From the yurt, you are just a short 15-minute drive to the pretty, little, 'How the West is Now' town of Cochrane, Alberta. Here you'll find anything you might need: groceries, AGLC, cafes, restaurants, pubs, Saturday farmers' markets, galleries, movie theatre, the reportedly haunted Rockyview Hotel, concerts, and rodeos.

Looking for a day trip? Visit Bankhead in Banff National Park, a winding 1-hour drive to an early 1900's mining ghost town located near Cascade Mountain. There is an informative self-guided interpretive walk.

Whether you're artists, writers or nature lovers seeking a unique, meditative retreat and photo ops, or adventurers who are happy to hike or cycle for hours, you can find what you are seeking here. Acres of a wild, boreal forest wonderland is at your disposal, grab a complimentary walking stick and you can explore at your leisure.

Private Forest

Our yurt is set in a private forest which backs on to 360 acres of leased Crown Land. While the yurt is in a forested, country location, you may hear or encounter other people on the trails and neighbouring properties. Green-Beard's Yurt is in a wilderness ranch environment. Guests are responsible for their own safety and are expected to have basic wilderness skills along with a general sense of comfort being alone in nature.

There are outdoor kitchen facilities, if you choose to pack in your own food, a small selection of cookware, a propane grill and bistro table with chairs are available for your use, or stop in at the "How the West is Now" town of Cochrane, a scenic 15 minutes to the south, and sample the unique coffeeshops and restaurants. Make sure to check out MacKay's Ice Cream, a local favourite located on the Main Street.

Green-Beard's Yurt is 686 sq. ft. of peace-filled living space with so many extra special touches, from a queen-size wrought iron bed with luxurious linens and bedding (no bedding at the moment, bring sleeping bag, thanks for that COVID-19), artistically arranged quality furnishings, and a welcoming, comfortable rustic ambience. Even though our yurt is completely OFF-GRID, don't let this scare you. Off-grid here doesn't mean you must search for an outhouse in the dark, there is a composting toilet and dressing room ensuite. You'll find a wood pellet heater, solar-powered lights and a generator available for extra cold nights, if necessary. Firewood for the Saturday evening campfire, and propane for the bbq are provided.

Green-Beard's Yurt is modernized and solar powered with the following amenities and features in the Fall, Summer and Spring:

• Onsite Parking Space & Walk-In Boardwalk Access
• Fully Insulated / Heated via pellet stove fireplace
• Outdoor shower (Spring Melt - First Frost)
• Indoor composting toilet
• Kitchen accessories and essentials
• Propane BBQ
• Drinkable bottled water provided
• On site trails & labyrinth
• Fire pit Saturday night at the ranch house, conditions permitting
• Board games, cards and self-directed nature immersion experiences

NOTE: No running water means NO shower in winter. The composting toilet is fully functional year round.

Winter Camping: This yurt is available year round. Guests are invited to bring snow-shoes and cross-country skis. Please note the outdoor shower is shut off when temperatures fall below freezing. Drinking and dishwashing water is provided. Winter weather can be challenging. Guests must be comfortable, equipped and acknowledge the inherent risks in staying in a winter foothill country environment.

Dostęp dla gości
Guests will have full access to the yurt and limited access to the surrounding property, see Yurt & Ranch rules. Entry is by access code. Check in time is 3:00 pm. Check-out is 11:00 am.

Inne ważne rzeczy
Energy Consumption

As an off-grid, solar powered yurt, energy conservation is key. Ensure lights are off when not in use, or when you leave or are outside of the yurt. Drawing too much power may cause you to lose function of the lights or pellet stove fireplace, so be mindful of your consumption. There is a back-up generator if needed.

Garbage

All garbage and recycling must be packed up and taken home on your departure. Pack out what you pack in.

Reschedule At Risk Guests:
Any guests who have traveled outside of Canada within 14 days of their visit, have been in contact with infected individuals, or who are showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus should contact us to reschedule or cancel their visit.

Intensified Cleaning Protocols:
Cleaners have intensified cleaning procedures to ensure all surfaces are thoroughly wiped down with disinfectant cleaner.

Vacancies Between Bookings:
Bookings are set up to only accept requests for a maximum of three nights on a weekend. The yurt is vacant four days (96 hrs) between guests. Requests for one week stays will be considered while still maintaining the vacancy between bookings.

Removal of All Bedding / Pillows / Blankets / Towels / Washcloths:
We are removing sponges and using disposable wash cloths moving forward. We have removed all blankets, bedding and pillows from our yurt. We ask that guests please bring their own blankets, sheets, pillows or sleeping bags during this period.

We are keeping a close eye on recommendations for health and safety and will adjust our plans accordingly as the situation evolves.

When you book a unique Nature Immersion Retreat, you can spend hours just hanging around a campsite playing cards. You’re probably not going to get through too many games of crib outside in the evenings though, even with your warmest toque pulled down low. The air at this elevation, the same elevation as Banff, can get a touch chilly at night. Instead, you’re going to want to cuddle up next to the pellet stove fireplace in the yurt with a warm mug of hot cocoa and play a few of the complementary board games.

Bring your bikes for an wonderful ride on the smooth roads of the popular cycling loops at your door, or your fishing poles and hiking boots and head offsite to the many nearby local fishing holes or trails. Walk, cross-country ski or snowshoe the gentle game trails at the Perrenoud Wildlife Habitat Area, rent a boat or ice fish at Ghost Lake, a scenic 15 minute drive away. Explore the joys of the season.
