  • Plum Island Light House, the 13th lighthouse in the US, was first lit in 1788 with a lantern burning whale oil.  It was needed to guide boaters into the treacherous mouth of the Merrimack River and into Newburyport Harbor.

  • The Cottage is a local convenience store which has a great selection of wine, beer, and other vacation needs.  
Plum Island Provisions is across the street  which delivers + has incredible food.  We HIGHLY recommend the breakfast sandwiches + pizza.
  • Brunch at Mad Martha’s is a unique Plum Island experience.
  • Sit outside overlooking the Merrimack River at Bob Lobster, a popular seafood shack.
  • Plum Island Airport owned by Historic New England is a wonderful place for picnicking while watching airplanes take off and land.
  • Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of more than 4700 acres of diverse habitats including sandy beach and dune, cranberry bog, maritime forest and shrub land, and freshwater marsh.
  • The most abundant habitat on the refuge is its 3,000+ acres of salt marsh, one of the most productive ecosystems in nature.  The refuge provides critical habitat for the threatened piping plover.
  • Walking in the nature reserve... not to be missed.
  • Plum Island is a bird watchers paradise.  We have left you some binoculars so that you can do some bird spotting!

  • Newburyport was founded in 1635, and is of historic importance.  The Custom House Maritime Museum and the Historical Society of Old Newbury are excellent places to visit to learn more about the history of our city.
  • Newburyport is a Massachusetts treasure.  Newburyport center offers much for visitors including excellent restaurants (we recommend Angie’s for brunch), retail shops, ice cream places, fresh bagels, and a weekly market.
  • Newburyport has a beautiful Harborside walk which runs the length of the city.  There are many summer time festivals held here including Yankee Homecoming.
  • Looking up the Merrimack River in Newburyport Harbor toward the ocean.
  • Locals dock their boats, and visitors bring their boats from across the country and the world to dock along the Merrimack river.
  • During the summer and fall, there is a very lively boating community.
