Historic village. Fantastic view. Half an hour from Edinburgh centre.

Miejsce
I love to travel, and often rent out my flat while I am away. At the moment I am in Italy for a few months.

There is a lockbox for access, and my neighbour, Chris Keast, also has a key if you accidentally lock yourself out. Now for the details.

This is my home, so you will be living amongst my books and papers. It is not suitable for very small children or pets (sorry). I hope you will be comfortable here.

PLEASE NOTE: You may have to make up the beds yourself, when you arrive. I will direct you where too find clean sheets, covers & towels etc, when you book. It would be really helpful if you would strip the beds after you leave, and leave all dirty laundry in the white basket.

The larger bedroom has a double bed with two separate (very firm) mattresses.

The smaller bedroom has bunk beds. The lower bed/sofa easily converts to a double bed.

The flat is 15 minutes from the airport by bus or car. There is a lockbox on the railing outside the main (black) door. My neighbour, Chris Keast, also has a key for emergencies. She is very helpful.

Checkout time is 11am (so that my cleaner can get access). Check-in by arrangement.

All I ask is that you take care of my flat, and respect my neighbours by coming and going quietly from the building.

You will love the view of the famous Forth Road and Rail Bridges. The Rail Bridge is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. And a new bridge, the Queensferry Crossing, opened on 30 August 2017.

We are one minute's walk from the centre of Queensferry, a beautiful, historic village with many excellent restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops. There are many nice walks, and boat trips nearby. The surrounding area is also very green, and there are many, many nice walks in the grounds of various estates -- Dalmeny House, Hopetoun House or Dundas castle. The local cycle track is also right outside.

Scotmid Supermarket is less than five minutes along the cycle track. You can park in the supermarket overnight , BUT only if you arrive after 6pm and exit before 8am next day -- otherwise you WILL GET A FINE!

Public transport to/from Edinburgh is very easy. Bus stops are very near. Train station is 15 minutes away. The airport bus stops on the Forth Road Bridge, 10-15 minutes away.

You can help yourself to cereal, coffee, tea etc for breakfast.

I am also happy for you to use the washing machine, iron and ironing board.

There is a large selection of books, maps and tourist leaflets to help you find places of interest.

Getting to/from Edinburgh
You do not need a car while you are in Edinburgh. Parking is VERY expensive, and difficult to find. (I paid £14 for three hours recently!)

The bus is a large green double decker number 43 or 43x to/from St Andrews Square or Princes Street in Edinburgh. The stop is at the end of our street, less than five minutes away. Buses run every 15-20 minutes during the daytime, and every hour in the evening. The journey to Edinburgh takes 35 minutes (longer in traffic). An all-day fare to travel on all Lothian buses around Edinburgh costs £5.50. The last bus from Edinburgh is 11.15pm. (Please note: this might make it difficult to see any late shows during the Edinburgh Festival, unless you have a car.)

The nearest train station is Dalmeny Station, a 15-minute walk. The journey to/from Edinburgh (Waverley Station) is around 15 minutes. An off-peak return costs around £5. The last train from Edinburgh is 11.15pm.

PARKING. We live in a single-track road. There is no parking outside the house, except to unload. I do not have a problem with this, but you may have to reverse if you meet another car. If you have a large car, or you are nervous about reversing, you should perhaps not book with me. (Or see below for more information.)

Parking at the supermarket is free BUT parking is limited to two hours from 8am-6pm, so set an alarm so that you don't get a fine!

You can also park around the corner, outside Queensferry Parish Church on The Loan, except on Sunday mornings, when the church is busy and you have to park on the opposite side.

Please ask if you have any further questions.

PLEASE PRINT OR SAVE OUR ADDRESS & DIRECTIONS before you come. You will find these under VIEW ITINERARY, after you book.

If you have satnav/GPS, our postcode is EH30 9HX.

All the buses have free Wi-Fi, but this can be slow so be patient. (You also have to check the box at the bottom of the screen and "agree" terms and conditions.)

Inne ważne rzeczy
Are you hiring a car? You really don't need a car when visiting Edinburgh. It is easy to get around, and most places are within easy walking distance. It is also VERY expensive to park in Edinburgh city, and it's very difficult to find a space especially in August during the Edinburgh Festival. Many places in the centre also restrict parking to one hour. Parking in a National Car Park (NCP) costs £13 for 4-5 hours. Street parking is £4.10 PER HOUR.

Instead, you should consider hiring a car AFTER (or before) your Edinburgh visit. There is a website called Kayak which will help you find the cheapest car hire. (Beware of a company called "EasyRent" -- we have had some bad reports of them.)

TAXI FROM THE AIRPORT. From the airport, a taxi to South Queensferry costs around £16 if you pre-book a local taxi. It is much more expensive to get a taxi outside the airport (£22), so it is better to pre-book, OR
Just hop on the Jet 747 bus to South Queensferry. £5:20 for a single ticket, or £8:10 for a return (within 28 days). The journey from the airport takes only 15-20 minutes, then you have a 10-15 minute walk, mostly downhill.

Now for some suggestions for your visit. (You can look most of these up on their own websites.)

Everyone who visits Edinburgh MUST visit to the Royal Mile on the High Street, which runs from the Edinburgh Castle right down to Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament. This is the oldest part of town. (Being generous Scots, we give you more -- it's actually a mile and a quarter.)

Almost all museums and art galleries are free, and there are plenty on the Royal Mile. We love The People's Story, The Edinburgh Museum, and The Museum of Childhood.

Short car trips:
If you are a fan of the TV series, Outlander, you will be pleased to know that many of the film locations are within 20-30 minutes drive from us. We can supply a map and directions.

For a whole day trip, St Andrews is a lovely old town (with the world-famous golf course). You should then return via the coastal route, (the area is called The East Neuk). This includes attractive fishing villages such as Anstruther or Pitttenweem.

Falkirk (on this side of the river) has two major new visitors' attractions: The Kelpies – a HUGE art structure of two horses heads. And the Falkirk Wheel – an amazing piece of unique engineering. We highly recommend both these, but you do need a car.

Aberdour is a nice little town with castle, gardens, and beach.

Dollar has a magnificent walk from Dollar Glen to Castle Campbell.

And, of course, there is South Queensferry, our beautiful little village. If you are eating out, you could try Antico, a nice restaurant opposite the Clock Tower. (You want watch the lights come up over the bridge when it gets dark.) If you prefer an old-world experience, you could eat at The Hawes Inn, opposite the Rail Bridge. (Some of our visitors visit both -- they have a meal in one restaurant, then walk along the waterside, and have coffee or a drink in another.)

I am a retired English teacher, working in Italy at the moment, so my flat is available while I am away. I love travelling, cycling, reading, cinema, and visiting coffee shops! Sadly, my husband died in December 2019. He was very popular with Airbnb guests I miss him greatly. We travelled all over the world together (he was a brilliant academic, I called him my “walking guide book”) and we loved visiting new places and meeting new people. We were especially fond of Paris, and went there many times.
