* The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreational Trail-
The waterfront Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail stretches 18 miles, from Castroville in the north to Pacific Grove in the south. This popular paved path hugs the coast, following the same route as the old Southern Pacific Railway. The rec trail is a great way for families to reach the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, the American Tin Cannery shopping and outlet mall, Fisherman's Wharf, and much more - avoiding busy roads and parking hassles.

Along the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, visitors can rent bikes and surreys (canopied quadricycles capable of seating up to six people), in-line skates and kayaks from several local businesses including Adventures by the Sea and Monterey Bay Kayaks. There are several places to stop and get a bite to eat on the trail, or you can pack a picnic and spread a blanket out on one of the trail's many grassy areas. All the while, you will enjoy beautiful views of Monterey Bay, where you can watch sea lions and sea otters in their natural habitat.

A rich history, diverse habitat and bountiful recreation opportunities await you at the Fort Ord National Monument. Another coastal gem with more than 86 miles of trails provides opportunities to hike, bike or ride your horse through rolling hills, pockets of chaparral and oak woodlands. You will see a huge diversity of plant life and animals in habitats that include streamside corridors, grasslands, maritime chaparral, oak woodlands and seasonal pools.

Fort Ord is also cherished for its link to the heroism and dedication of men and women who served our nation and fought in the major conflicts of the 20th century. This area remains undeveloped thanks to its role as a U.S. Army facility from 1917-1994. During the Vietnam War, it served as a leading training center and deployment staging ground. As many as 1.5 million American troops trained at Fort Ord.

It’s all in the heart of the Monterey area, with its many attractions, abundant natural resources and beautiful access to the California Coast and Salinas Valley.

We are in the “new” side of Marina (former Fort Ord). In the Target /REI shopping center, less than 2 miles away, there is a Chipotle, Smash burger, Teriyaki bowls, Poke, and a good Deli.

The older side (off Reservation Rd) has many other dining options..., there is a Mountain Mikes Pizza, Saritas Mexican Food, The Noodle Bar, Korean place, Im Thai, Tico’s restaurant (hole in the wall with good food), etc

For a very nice meal in town, try Saltwood Kitchen and Oysterette - on the beach.

If you don’t mind a short drive, there are much better dining options (including Michelin star restaurants) in Carmel and Pebble Beach. Monterey, Carmel Valley and Big Sur also have many great options for a gourmet experience.
