LANGUAGE
The language spoken in Brazil is Portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese is slightly different from the Portuguese spoken in Portugal. The pronunciation is softer than in Portugal. The language spoken in the region has a significantly simplified grammar, as is the case throughout the country.

TIME ZONE
Bahía is located in the GMT-3 time zone. The time difference between Western Europe is 3 hours behind in the European winter (e.g. London 14:00 - Porto Seguro 11:00), in the European summer it is 4 hours behind (e.g. London 14:00 - Porto Seguro 10:00).

CURRENCY
Brazil's currency is the real, plural reais. This currency has been heavily devalued at times. The economy has recovered and the real is now a stable currency.

Paying with credit cards does not create any problems in most shops and restaurants. ATMs issue cash on Maestro, Cirrus, VISA and Master cards. Please look for the appropriate symbol on the ATM!

You can change dollars, euros or Swiss francs into reais at the intial Brazilian airport. Purchasing reais in your home country is generally not recommended.

If guests wish to bring currency into Brazil, amounts above a value of 10,000 reais must be declared.

It is difficult to cash traveller cheques in Brazil and they usually incur high fees.

In Brazil the bill includes a percentage for tips. Guests wishing, for example, to take a taxi or use another service may also give an additional tip.

CAR RENTAL
Rental cars or buggies are available at the airport or in Porto Seguro.

We will be happy to help with any formalities. An international driver's licence is recommended for vehicle rental.

MEDICAL CARE
Medical care is guaranteed while holidaying throughout the entire region. In the village of Santo André medical emergencies are treated in the »Posto de Saude«. Santa Cruz Cabralia has a small hospital and the city of Porto Seguro has a large hospital. There are also numerous private hospitals, dentists and specialist medical practices in the region.

VACCINATIONS
No special vaccinations are required for entry to Brazil. In addition to the standard vaccinations, we recommend to have a yellow fever vaccination. Bahia is not a malarial area and prophylaxis is therefore not necessary.

Using an insect repellent is sufficient to protect you from dengue fever while on holiday. Guests can obtain products from most shops in the region.

The above information is subject to correction. If you have any questions or concerns (e.g. about adverse effects) please consult your GP.

POWER SUPPLY
220 V / 60 Hz, euro plugs can be used in the house.

Lokalizacja

Santo André, Bahia, Brazylia

The house is located in the »APA Santo Antonio« nature reserve. The property, surrounded by the natural environment of the rainforest, lies right beside the Santo André beach. This was justifiably classified by »Veja« magazine as one of the ten most beautiful and exotic beaches in Brazil.

The water at the »Praia de Santo André« (also: »Praia de Tartarugas« – Turtle Beach) is calm thanks to an offshore reef. This makes it ideal for bathing, and also for families with children. Thus far, this insider's tip in the region remains undiscovered by mass tourism.

Up until now, only sustainable tourism has been developed in the region. With this in mind, we have taken the appropriate measures. We heat our water using only solar energy. Ozone is used instead of chlorine for treating the swimming pool and water purification.

SANTO ANDRÉ
The tranquil village has thus far remained a pleasant and quiet fishing village with little more than 800 inhabitants. From the hustle of Porto Seguro with all its beach bars you arrive from Santa Cruz Cabrália directly on the ferry over the Rio João de Tiba.

In recent years Santo André resort has become increasingly important. Here, upmarket ecotourism has developed with a markedly sophisticated infrastructure. For supplies during your holiday there are two small discount stores, grocery stores, boutiques, arts and crafts workshops, and over a dozen restaurants, pubs and bars in the village.

An old Brazilian legend recounts the following about Santo André. An anxious father who was afraid of thieves buried a golden statue of Saint Andrew here. Who knows - maybe the gold of this statue has lent a particular gloss to the small fishing village?

PORTO SEGURO
Porto Seguro was founded in 1534 and is commonly acknowledged to be the birthplace of Brazil. In Santa Cruz Cabrália, the Portuguese Pedro Álvares Cabral stepped on Brazilian soil for the first time on 22 April, 1500. Porto Seguro is therefore one of the oldest cities in Brazil.

Porto Seguro is easily accessible and is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can enjoy a wonderful view of the coast from the historical upper town,. Anyone who likes hustle and bustle will discover vibrant life in the lower town. Shopping streets offer attractive shopping options during the daytime. Round off the evening with the best Bahian and international cuisine at the »Passarela do Descobrimento« with its many bars and restaurants.

Since 1993, the international airport in the city of Porto Seguro has contributed significantly to economic growth and tourism in this part of the country. Today, Porto Seguro is one of the most visited cities in Brazil.

CLIMATE
The humid tropical climate of the region is one of the most pleasant in the world due to both the warm, moist winds from the South Atlantic and frequent strong winds from Patagonia.

An average temperature of 22°C in winter and 26°C in summer means you can enjoy beach life throughout the year.

The region doesn’t have a definite rainy season, but the months of August/September and January/February are considered to be the driest and there is usually more rainfall in the month of May.
