Built in 1922, the house is in the Evergreen Historic District in Midtown Memphis. It has a private living room with a gas fireplace, bedroom, en-suite bathroom with shower and bathtub large enough for a soak, wraparound porch, 10' ceilings, original woodwork and oak floors, 4 French doors, glass-front bookcase, large set of windows, and the world’s most comfortable king-size bed (really). A comfortable trundle bed is also available for the living room, and there's an ashtray out on the porch.

The entrance is private and takes you into a suite which is completely yours. (And if you would like self - check in, just mention it in an Airbnb text to me.) There is a fireplace in the living room for chilly nights, and a large screen TV with DVD and VCR in the cabinet below. If you want to relax after seeing the sights, there are some movies in the bookcase, or feel free to bring something you haven’t had time to watch. The double recliner is perfect for long movies, or just relaxing by the fireplace. If you’d rather read, there are some choices in the glass-front bookcase and a comfortable antique rocker in front of it.

On beautiful days, you can open the latch and regular windows (with sheers for privacy), and all curtains are lined.

A set of French doors opens into the bedroom. A table/desk with a case for jewelry, etc., can serve as a place to throw things, hold a suitcase, a spot for a computer, or a vanity. There are a variety of pillows as everyone has their own pillow thing. You can surround yourself with them on the bed or build a fort. The bed is very roomy and you can even enter your vote for the world’s most comfortable bed competition. Even the chair in the bedroom is extremely comfy (doesn't always happen with antiques).

You’re welcome to park in the garage or behind the house. Follow the stepping stones in the side yard to the south side of the front porch, with easy keypad entry. The wraparound porch has an old-style glider, chairs and table for coffee, lunch, or glass of wine. There are restaurants within blocks to bring something back to eat outside if you like.

You can walk to 3 very good places to eat: The Bar-B-Q Shop (you’ll be glad you did), India Palace, and/or Casablanca (Middle Eastern, and pick up a bottle of olive oil from the owner’s father’s farm back home). You can even catch a play about 3 blocks from the house. There are other restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, but those are some of the best.

You’ll have the essentials for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and fruit, an ashtray on the porch, and a mini-fridge and microwave for all your leftovers. The bath has various and sundry toiletries in the cabinet and medicine cabinet if you forget anything.

Gdzie się zatrzymasz

Memphis, Tennessee, Stany Zjednoczone

The Evergreen District is in the middle of pretty much everything. The house is a quick 4 min. drive to the hopping Overton Square Entertainment District; 7 mins. to the Cooper Young neighborhood (more restaurants, shops, character included); 5 mins. to Sun Records where rock and roll was born, and Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Ike Turner, and others recorded; 10 mins. to the renowned Beale Street - 150 years of the world’s best blues; 11 minutes to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, NBA basketball, baseball stadium, and Smithsonian affiliate: the National Civil Rights Museum. Another “don’t miss” south from downtown: your soul may be saved by soul-music-legend-turned-Bishop Al Green at his fabulous Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. An 18 min. drive, and wear your dancing shoes. (But you'll be put to shame by an 80-year-old.)

There's more. It’s just 6 mins. to the Broad Ave. District with art galleries, very interesting shops and restaurants, outdoor concerts and yet more character; 6 mins. to downtown Memphis with dozens of restaurants, a jaw-dropping 60-story pyramid on the river (really), go inside, and the South Main arts District; the beautiful Brooks Art Gallery is a mile away in Overton Park (1901), a huge and fantastic city park with an old growth forest (yes, trails), golf course, the Memphis Zoo, a bark-park, and Memphis College of Art; a 13 min. drive to amazing Graceland; 15 to the airport.

Even at just the end of our block is a nice restaurant with patio service (Ecco), with a few more steps to Atomic Tiki. (Might be good for what ails you.)
Go north on Avalon to get there, and you'll know if you went south instead, because you'll be in a car wash.

I am your primary host. Was a teacher, still do so p/t now, have been in Memphis almost 25 years, and am in the process of becoming an Airbnb magnate. I am sure it will be fabulous due to the charming and tasteful guests who would choose our site. Like to travel, so also like meeting people from different places if you’re interested in a chat, but it's also perfectly fine if your vacation is an escape from people for a bit. We invite guests from all walks of life, and I suppose the thing I wouldn't want to live without would be chocolate. Mark does software project management and his primary interest is the cosmos. He would give an arm for a trip on a rocket going anywhere in outer space. Personally, the only way you would get me on a rocket is unconscious. Also, please feel welcome to stop Mark with a question or something you need, or if you can’t get me on the phone. He’s very amiable. We’re both originally from Iowa, where amiability is required, and have lived other places since.

Self- check in if you like, just mention it in a text. Alternatively, one of us can be here to greet you and get you in the door and acclimated. We like meeting people, but we can skip the meet and greet if you're on an escape from humans.

There is lot of information on things to do and places to go (with related websites) in the white binder the and end table. And keep reading, you'll be glad you did.

We live upstairs and are here and so are here to help with whatever you need, answer questions, provide recommendations, etc. Feel free to call, or text through Airbnb.
