Miejsce
We call this property the Esopus Sanctuary for several reasons. The area is a protected forever wild forest preserve renowned for its fauna and flora. The cabin itself is also a sanctuary, your peaceful refuge from the din of everyday city life. Note that all guests must be 18+ years old.

Your getaway starts with a scenic drive to the Catskills and a stop at one of the farm stands for provisions. Once at the Sanctuary, breathe in the glorious air and see the Esopus Creek (really a river) and the mountain views and you'll agree -- the living is easy! You have the best of all worlds.

Located at the base of Woodland Valley on Woodland Valley Road, a mile from Phoenicia, the Esopus Sanctuary features a nicely stocked modern kitchen, 1 and 1/2 bathrooms with bath and shower, 2 separate bedrooms each with full-sized beds and quality linens. Note the Cottage is on Woodland Valley Road and some traffic noise can be heard above the sound of the river.

The wood burning fireplace is priceless for the comfort it provides, wood and fire starters are included. The landscaped yard is picture perfect. There's strong wireless access and a Smart TV is included.

We use high quality cleaning products to ease our footprint on the environment and to help guests with chemical sensitivities.

No need to compromise. It’s all good … fresh, clean lodgings, so many amenities, impeccable attention to your needs, a stunning location and competitively priced.

Booking information:

Rates are based on a 2 person occupancy and an additional fee per guest per night up to a maximum of four people, 2 in each bedroom – see pricing information. There is $25 charge to replace lost keys.

If the dates you are seeking are booked, try visiting one of our other Catskill Getaway rentals. You can find them on our profile page

What a stay at the Sanctuary Cabin would look like:

You have a view of the crystal clear flow of the Woodland Valley tributary creek flowing into the Esopus Creek (which is really a river). Locals hang out on the other side of the tributary as well as the occasional fly fishermen.

Imagine the sound of whitewater from the Esopus Creek and a pristine, local swimming hole just across the Woodland Valley Creek favored by locals, and it's located just a stone's throw from your backyard. Go fly fishing or float down the Esopus Creek on an inner tube (get a fishing license at Phoenicia Hardware or sign up for tubing at the Town Tinker in Phoenicia).

Imagine sitting on the deck and being lucky enough to have an American bald eagle fly overhead darkening the sky with its 7 foot wingspan. It will take your breath away!

Make 'smores in the fire pit. Relax in the back yard, the gazebo, or visit the little orchard. Go 20 steps and cast a fishing rod. Meander along peaceful country roads. Take a dip in the Esopus.

Take advantage of the multitude of seasonal activities like tubing, skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and much more.

Take a break from the city without having to travel far. It’s just two hours from the George Washington Bridge to our quaint and cool hamlet of Phoenicia.

If you want to stay local, Phoenicia is self-contained with a variety of restaurants and shops, some quirky, galleries and a community theater. We're known for our friendly, artsy and unpretentious small town charm combined with great restaurant and pub choices.

If you want to venture out, the Hudson Valley has a treasure chest of cultural offerings. This is a perfect time for late winter / early spring activities. Hike one of the trails, or ski one of the four ski resorts in the area.

Our house guide provides a range of suggestions for what to do in the area. Relax on the deck, take a scenic drive, check out one of the farm-to-table restaurants, get cozy in front of the fireplace in the cooler evenings and take in the night sky ... restorative and magical.

There is a heating cooling system in the den that heats in the winter and cools during the summer. If you need instructions just text us.

====================================

Here are some of the things that make Phoenicia special:

In 2017 we were rated as the No. 1 destination outside of NYC by Curbed New York, a real-estate and travel blog.

We were also rated one of "Ten Coolest Small Towns in America" by Budget Traveler.

Our guests hail from all parts of the world to this very small hamlet.

Phoenicia was recently featured in Travel and Leisure's 25 Easy Weekend Getaways.

We are part of the watershed that supplies water to 9 million customers including all of NYC.

Our hamlet of Phoenicia has a population of around 300 yet hosts monumental events like the International Festival of the Voice with panache.

We are near four ski resorts: Belleayre, Hunter, Windham and Plattekill

The Phoenicia Library lends out fishing poles and ukuleles.

You are always, always near a world-class hiking trail.

Our beloved local poet is a candidate at every presidential election.

Most of our friends think Phoenicia has a vibe that’s cooler than Woodstock.

We keep the location of swimming holes secret until we’re sure you will respect our pristine waters.

Farm-to-table foodies will be in good company.

The first ski area in the state of NY was located just down the street from us.

Birding is exceptional. Hummingbirds visit us in the summer. You can spot magnificent American Bald Eagle. They nest near the Esopus Creek (really a river) where they catch fish.

We get excited about the annual garden tour and the yearly artists tour. Visit with local peeps at the Arts Upstairs openings and community gatherings every month.

For culinary treats buy local: Migliorelli's Farm Stand or Mt. Tremper Farms on Rt. 28

Most of the area is a protected forest preserve with wildlife galore.

There is a plethora of sports and cultural activities, a world-class spa, fabulous restaurants at all price ranges, fun shops, awesome bakeries, to meet the needs of the most discerning travelers.

For these reasons and many more, we think we have an awesome place to live. Our goal is to share it with you and make sure you have an enjoyable and restorative stay and return rejuvenated.

This is a standalone corner property along the Esopus Creek on Woodland Valley Road with multiple river and mountain views. The property is private but there are seasonal anglers, swimmers and tubers that share the Esopus Creek in the summer months. There is very light car traffic on Woodland Valley Road with a maybe an occasional walker, cyclist or jogger.

The property is located on quiet and safe historic area, across the street from the first downhill ski slope in New York State that was in operation until the late 70's. The general area is comprised of full-time residents, weekend residents, second homeowners, seasonal guests and short-term vacation rental guests. We are located less than a mile from Main Street Phoenicia.

My wife, Alma, and I focus on healthy living, the environment and sustainability. We enjoy the simple pleasures of this culturally-rich community surrounded by the majestic Catskill Forest Preserve. Every day something in nature delights me: a flock of turkeys, an autumn landscape, the sunset on the Esopus Creek, cukes with sparkling morning dew, the grand constellations. I stop, take in the beauty, and focus on gratitude. We enjoy helping guests take a break from the hubbub of city life to relax, rejuvenate and reconnect with each other. We worked as professionals in advertising, publishing, environmental organizations, and as consultants for non-profits. We understand the importance of that spur-of-the-moment getaway as a way to find balance between work and play. We give our guests total privacy. But we help our guests explore our cool and quaint hamlet of Phoenicia and its environs with its many of its hidden treasures through our house guides and "Best Picks." We love sharing this magical place with you and have you fall in love with it as well.
