A 2020 barn conversion finished to a high standard with every consideration given to the guests. The Cartshed is a unique cottage with the open plan ground floor leading to a luxurious bathroom and stairs to the two first floor bedrooms and patio / hot tub area.

The kitchen is a notable feature, designed to accommodate the culinary aspirations of the self caterers.

The ground floor living area and bathroom has underfloor heating for cosy winter days and the log burner completes the picture.

Miejsce
The Cartshed offers quality fixtures and fittings blended with the old world charm of open beams and wooden floors. The ground floor has underfloor heating and comprises an open plan living room and kitchen.

2 first floor bedrooms are accessed via a semi open staircase and landing also connecting to the rear door to the terrace and hot tub area for the exclusive use of guests in The Cartshed.

The property is accessed via a courtyard and parking area which is shared with 2 other cottages all arranged to ensure privacy is assured.

Ain House has an on-site wood and easy access to Irton Fell to the north with paths onto Illgill Head where there are tremendous views into Wasdale and towards the Scafell range.

The Cartshed is a barn conversion - it retains some features of it’s former use - particularly in the bathroom where an old bread oven has been retained along with a stone basin. It’s a quirky property. Outside are the footings of an engine that used to run a driveshaft which ran through the property into the main barn and was used to run a saw bench and even generated electricity in the days prior to a mains supply to the property. The drive shaft opening is now a bedroom window and the mortice machine used around the turn of the 19th / 20th century was found on site and we have plans to display it nearby.

The Cartshed forms part of the Ain House complex of buildings. Whilst offered to rent individually it is feasible to group book with the 2 other on site properties (Ain House Cottage and Ain House Stables) which can sleep 14 in total. Occasionally a further one bedroom (2 person) cottage may be available by separate negotiation.

The grounds are generally open to use by guests, provided the immediate vicinity and privacy of each property is respected. Due care and attention to safety should be exercised - the woods are interesting but on a hillside.

Ain House and cottages are set back about 300m from Bowerhouse Bank off their own drive. The buildings sit against the backdrop of Irton Fell and are surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are no other properties visible from the property - it’s remote enough to feel ‘away from it’ but only half a mile or so from two local pubs.

Formerly farm buildings and at one time used as a sawmill and timber workshop, the main house has been extended and refurbished by the owners. The outbuildings have all been renovated - The Stables and Cartshed having been lovingly converted and a pre-existing cottage also having been fully gutted and redeveloped.

The owners are constantly improving the premises and projects particularly to improve the external areas are ongoing but will not detrimentally impact on your stay.

Whilst offered to rent individually it is feasible to group book 2 or 3 properties which can sleep 14 in total. Occasionally a further one bedroom (2 person) cottage may be available by separate negotiation.

Sari is a mile away and can be contacted either by landline or mobile. David and Jo, the owners, are occasionally in Ain House. Our policy is to be available if needed but otherwise let you enjoy yourselves undisturbed.
