A cosy, Mongolian-style yurt with stunning views over Fiordland National Park, in an amazing location next to Lake Te Anau, the Kepler Track and a Lord of the Rings river. Cross our land to an off-road walking/cycling track around the lake into Te Anau town (5 minutes away by car but a world away). Walk through your wooden door and find a beautiful circular space with a duvet-strewn double bed, wood stove, games/books. Lie in bed or sit on the decking gazing at soaring wilderness peaks.

Miejsce
**Please note! We have two very private yurts, in different parts of our land. If 'Yurt With A View' is booked out for the days you want, you may wish to consider our top-of-the-range yurt, The O2 yurt, at https://abnb.me/3099bikmi1

About Yurt With A View
Your beautiful yurt, known affectionally to us as Yurty, is perched on a wooden decking on an amazing hillside with jaw-dropping views of Lake Te Anau. It is within gentle walking distance across our land and a golf course to the lakeside and the start of the Kepler Track, one of New Zealand's prestigious great walks in Fiordland National Park.

Yurty comes with solar panel lighting including a bedside lamp and a central Turkish stained glass lamp that provides a beautiful warm red glow, a head torch to guide you to the nearby shower room (upgraded with a new shower for 2018/19), a New Zealand wool duvet, hot water bottles and extra blankets and a log burner; so you are guaranteed a snug night while breathing perhaps the cleanest air in the world, in a simply breathtaking location.

The shower room and toilet are by the front door of our family home, including eco products and clean towels. Sometimes you share this facility with a farm helper, but it is always clean, and we have renovated our shower room for 2018/19.

If you want to get cosy in front of your log burner, we have stacks of books and even a guitar and bag of guitar music.

Food

We provide fair trade and organic tea and organic plunger coffee making facilities, snack bars and fruit.

Within the price, we don't provide breakfast or dinner. However, lots of our guests don't want to leave the yurt once they have arrived! Many guests therefore choose to bring their own drinks and cold meal, or another good idea is to pick up a pizza or Indian take away in Te Anau. You can eat sitting on your private decking in the evening sunshine. In the mornings, the Sandfly Cafe is great for a late brunch after a morning over coffee and fruit in the yurt.

You are on a small working farm so expect chickens and cats, and sheep and cows over the fence. You may hear a cockerel in the morning; he is your free-of-charge alarm clock to ensure you don't miss a moment in Fiordland!

On starry, balmy nights you can star gaze; there is no light pollution so the night sky is amazing.

Yurty is the perfect launch pad for our fabulous fiords, Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound. A trip to either is a trip of a lifetime. However, if you arrive in the early afternoon and are looking for something to do, or are staying with us for several days, there is plenty to do right here!

Things to do directly from the yurt

Last chance to see: You can stroll around the lake to our free bird park and view the Takahe (one of the rarest birds in the world that only lives in the mountains opposite Yurty). It is an amazing large blue bird that cannot fly, and there are only about 400 left!

Get on your bike: You can borrow our family bikes and helmets to cycle in two directions on the amazing new cycle trail. In one direction you cycle around Lake Te Anau into Te Anau township (and past the bird park), and in the other direction you cycle down a Lord of the Rings river next to Fiordland wilderness.

Walk or jog in Fiordland National Park: There are fabulous running and walking tracks in the National Park, of any length you need, which you can walk and jog to straight from Yurty (or alternately drive two minutes to the car park).

Stay for a night, or stay for longer to soak up Fiordland
We are happy to have you just for one night. Many of our guests who have used Yurty as their launch pad for getting to Milford Sound have found it a perfect one night base. However, if you are considering staying for longer, then even better! Many of our one-night-only guests have told us they wished they had booked longer. Yurty is a place to slow down for a while and there is so much to do in Fiordland!

Getting here
If you do not have a car, it is easy to hop on a bus to get here (Intercity or Tracknet). We can pick you up and drop you off at the bus stop.
If you have your own car we are easy to find and are a five-minute drive from central Te Anau, but a world away from Te Anau suburbia. We send directions on booking.

Planning to do a multi-day walk (known as tramping)?
If you are planning to walk the Kepler or any other of the Great Walks near us (Routeburn, Milford, Hollyford, etc) we can give you tramping advice including helping you rent your equipment. Mary is a mountain guide. If you have a car but don't want to leave it in a carpark for several days, we can also transport you, or arrange your transport, to the start of the walks.

Planning to cruise or kayak the Sounds?
We can help arrange this for you, or simply search online for Fiordland boat cruises or kayaking trips. Andrew is a kayak guide and can give you kayaking advice and tips on visiting Milford Sound by kayak.

Want to leave your belongings here?
You can leave your belongings with us if you arrive earlier than the check-in time, and leave them with us while you are tramping. We have a lockbox for your valuables. We also have plenty of parking space.
