Well-equipped and scrupulously clean private apartment in a Victorian house by sub-tropical gardens and near the sea. Courtyard garden; wifi. A few steps from shops and restaurants and ten minutes walk from the bus and train stations. Free parking either outside in our small space, or in a gated car park three minutes away. We live in the house above so are usually around to help if need be - but the apartment is totally separate and self contained. Ideal for a romantic getaway or family break.

Miejsce
The Secret Garden is on the ground/lower-ground floor of a four-storey Victorian end-of-terrace house in the heart of Penzance. It is below our family home. The apartment is next to Morrab Gardens, three minutes from the sea, and only steps away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of town. The apartment combines some lovely period features with a modern kitchen (with washer-dryer and dishwasher) and bathroom with underfloor heating. It is stylishly equipped to a high standard with all mod cons, and personal touches such as books, games and a selection of DVDs. We are very conscious of the need to keep it scrupulously clean, and have recently enhanced our cleaning regime for the reassurance of our guests.

nb We are not one of those places where you have to bring everything yourselves. Our £20 "cleaning" fee includes not just several hours of cleaning but also fresh bath towels, bed linen and dressing gowns, toilet tissue, tea towels and cleaning essentials, heating and on-demand hot water (of course), as well as tea, coffee, milk, juice, croissants, butter, jams, cereals, soap, shampoo, washing up liquid, washing powder, dishwasher powder, some cooking basics such as salt, pepper and oil... hopefully all the basics you might need for a short stay, and enough to get you going for at least the first few days of a longer stay.

LIVING ROOM
Two-seater sofa bed, armchair, small dining table, two dining chairs, one stool, side table, small chest of drawers, electric wood burner, large-screen smart TV, DVD player, books, games, DVDs. Original timber sash window with view to garden, with wooden shutters and a window seat. Built-in cupboard. Radiator.

BEDROOM
King-sized bed with luxury mattress topper and four pillows, non-allergenic duvet and a large blanket. Bedside lamps, small wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside table, dressing table and chair, desk lamp, wall-mounted smart TV with built-in DVD player. Built-in cupboard with shelves. Timber sash window with view to front steps. Radiator.

KITCHEN
Electric cooker with grill and three-ring hob, large fridge-freezer, washer-dryer, slimline dishwasher, kettle and toaster, Nespresso coffee machine, plenty of worktop space, low-level storage cupboards, wall shelf, bread bin, chopping boards, knives, pans, crockery, cutlery, glassware, utensils, tray - basically, everything you'll need (just ask if not). Radiator.

BATHROOM
Corner shower, full-sized bath, WC, basin, mirror with shelf, heated towel rail, underfloor heating, extractor fan.

HALLWAY
Radiator, owners' store cupboard. Understairs cupboard with iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, heated plug-in drying rail, torch, travel cot, high chair, linen for sofa bed, first aid kit.

GARDEN
As you would expect from a terraced property in the town centre, the pretty courtyard garden is a little overlooked. It is also adjacent to the public driveway that leads to Morrab Gardens, so you will hear people chattering as they pass, and the occasional vehicle. It is very quiet in the evenings. We provide a table and three chairs, and a metal 'shelf' for you to use with your own disposable BBQ.

PARKING SPACE
To get in to our parking space you will need to be confident in driving through the narrow streets in the centre of town, doing a three-point turn in the drive outside the flat, then reversing around a corner into a narrow back lane before pulling forwards into our space. It is possible for even a seven-seater or a small van to get in (but not a Range Rover or similar), but the manoeuvring can be tricky when you're not used to it, and some drivers may find it a little daunting. This is why we say the space is for small or medium sized cars only. If you wish to bring a large car, or prefer not to attempt getting in to the space, we can offer you a free pass for the secure car park that is less than five minutes walk away.

Inne ważne rzeczy
We have a parking space you can use provided you are happy to manoeuvre your car into it (you'll need to be confident about driving through the sometimes busy centre of town, and good at reversing around corners)! Typically of a house in the middle of a historic town centre, the parking is awkward. If you'd prefer not to use the space, we can advise on alternatives, from free parking in nearby roads to local car parks (we can give you a free pass for one that is less than five minutes walk away).
If you are travelling with a child, we can offer a travel cot (please bring your own bedding for it) and folding high chair.
There is constant hot water, but the central heating for the entire property is controlled by one boiler, which is sited in our home above. It is set to provide generous heating morning and evening in colder months (and sometimes all day when it's very cold) - and you may ask if you would like the settings changed. However, if for any reason you feel cold there is also an electric stove in the living room, and a fan heater for the bedroom. The bathroom is heated by underfloor heating and a heated towel rail, which you can control yourselves.

Penzance, Anglia, Wielka Brytania

We love the historic centre of Penzance, with its pretty streets of Georgian and Victorian houses and winding walkways. You can walk everywhere within 15 minutes of the apartment - to the shops, the pubs, the cafés and restaurants, the theatre, the cinema and the iconic seawater lido, as well as the bus and train stations. The wonderful sub-tropical Morrab Gardens are - literally - on your doorstep, the promenade is three minutes walk away and the Jubilee Pool is less than ten minutes on foot. We have plenty of interesting shops, especially on next-door Chapel Street (from fashion to vintage furniture), loads of great places to eat (fine dining to cream teas) and, of course, if you want to go swimming, surfing or building sandcastles, there are loads of wonderful beaches within half an hour's drive. Please note: this is a town-centre apartment, so you will hear some of the usual noise, even though we are in a quiet, out-of-the-way spot.

I'm a freelance writer and, after spending most of my life in London, I fell in love with beautiful West Cornwall while on holiday. Now I'm lucky enough to live here with my family, in the upper floors of this grand, Victorian end-of-terrace house.
