The apartment is interesting, comfortable, well provisioned, centrally located, & easy to access. It's fully independent for guest access & use. It's on the main floor (no stairs!) with high ceilings, exposed brick, & central air/heat.

Miejsce
The building is close to Elm St (the main drag), the Marriott (for the High Point Furniture Market shuttle), Amtrak & bus depot, hospitals, & universities (Elon Law, UNCG, NC A&T, Bennett, Greensboro College). We are 5-6 minutes (~2.8 miles) by car from the Greensboro Coliseum Complex / Aquatic Center (20 minutes by public bus) and 10 minutes (~4.5 miles) by car from the Koury Convention Center (30 minutes by public bus).

The main entrance doors are secure, and once you're inside the hallway, this apartment is around the corner and halfway down the corridor. All three doors you need to access are key-less (you'll receive the easy-to-remember codes after reserving). The apartment is on the second floor, but it is the main entrance from Market Street, so there are NO steps to enter (but to walk in/out on Friendly Avenue, you would have to go down/up one flight of stairs).

There is NO PARKING provided with this unit; BUT you will find AMPLE ON-STREET PARKING and NUMEROUS PARKING GARAGES within steps of the building and in a two block radius (see our Airbnb Guidebook for specifics).

The HVAC is very efficient, and the building is well insulated. The windows are north facing and provide indirect light. The apartment has very high powered track lighting as well as softer task lighting (and nightlights).

You will have complete access to the entire apartment.

The living area: two couches (one with pull-out bed), coffee table, bookshelf, easy chair, lamp, TV (with dvd/vcr, Google Chromecast, and AppleTV), fast wired and wireless internet, ceiling fan. We have an inflatable bed that could be put in here, and/or one couch is very long and can sleep one person (but it is NOT a pull-out) while the other couch does have a double pull-out bed.

The kitchen: complete complement of kitchen tools, dishes, and appliances. There is also filtered ice and water, soaps and cleaning supplies, and the coffee maker has an insulated thermos. (You'll need your own food, but there most likely will be tea, sugar, salt, pepper, cooking oil, spices, etc.)

The dining area: either two stools for the bar / countertop, or four folding chairs for a small table.

The bathroom: everything you'll need, except your own own toiletries, such as toothbrush etc. (but there are various new and open products we provide or that guests have left behind.) NOTE: The washing machine should be used on delicate cycle (for the sake of your clothes), and the dryer lint trap is prone to being excessively dirty because of the long exhaust run to outside.

The main bedroom: one queen bed (the Nest Bedding Love & Sleep Mattress, Greenguard certified), large closet with hanging space and space for luggage (with suitcase rack), dresser, complete bedding (and a change of sheets), ceiling fan.

The second bedroom: EITHER two twins OR one "king" (the twins pull together to make a short king, held together with a furniture strap, and we top the two beds with a memory foam topper so you never know there are two mattresses underneath!), complete bedding for both set ups, small closet (with space for hanging clothes), ceiling fan. This room, as the floorplan photo shows, does not have a window (only the main bedroom and living room do).

The total space is approximately 750 square feet.

It is important to know that this is NOT A HOTEL, and we do NOT run an Airbnb "business." This is the only unit we manage, and we do our best to make it as comfortable as possible for guests.

When you check in, you might find any of the following: dishes (washed) in the dishwasher and not put away and/or laundry (clean) in the washer/dryer and not put away -- that's because the previous guests (and our cleaners) did as instructed, and we hope you will too. (We will endeavor to never leave too much laundry in the washer/dryer, but if you end up putting some on or away, please accept our apologies in advance -- the machines take a while to run, so sometimes previous guests / cleaners cannot get it all done before the next guest.) There may also be leftover dry goods (like coffee, tea, sugar, flour, etc.) in the cabinets, and unopened food in the refrigerator -- that's leftovers from guests too. It's a "pass it on" arrangement.

The building was originally a grocery store in the early 1900s. In the mid-/late- 20th century, it became law offices (because it's directly across the street from the Guilford Courthouse). In 2007, just before we purchased it, the building was completely renovated into 33 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Also, it is important to understand that this is a condominium with 32 other units spread over three floors. People come and go at all hours. There is the possibility of noise and smells (food, smoking, pets) from other units and in the hallways to enter in to this (our) unit. We recommend that you bring earplugs, just in case. Furthermore, if the smells are there and they bother you, then we recommend that you try blocking the bottom of the front door with a damp towel and opening (cracking) a window to allow the HVAC to pull fresh air from outside rather than stale air from the inside building hallway. If noise from other residents bothers you, then please take the initiative to knock on the offending unit's door and let them know, politely. Also, as a condo, there are things we cannot control, such as the hallways, the entrance foyer, the backdoor access, the stairwells, and especially the front doors and their locks.

Downtown has a lot going on; search the web for "Downtown Greensboro, Inc." for listings, maps, stores, and events. This apartment is a very short two block walk to the main drag (Elm Street). The Famers' Market (Saturday and Wednesday mornings) on Yanceyville and E. Lindsay Sts. is excellent, and the Deep Roots Coop at N. Eugene and Smith Sts. (about six blocks away) is a favorite. There are lots of clubs, restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops within a few blocks, and it's a very safe area. We (Kailan and Aaron) travel extensively for work and pleasure. When traveling together, we take our son (born 2013) with us: he's already visited the West Coast a few times, crossed the border to Canada a bunch, and made a lot of trans-Atlantic flights! We also travel with his younger brother (born 2018), who’s also starting out as a great little traveler! Kailan is from Canada and has lived in Toronto, Philadelphia, Edmonton, and the Netherlands; Aaron is from West Virginia and has lived in Key West, FL; Long Beach, MS, New Orleans, Boston, and Bologna, Italy. We both lived in Rome for 11 months in 2011-12 (our picture in this profile is from our visit to a 1700-year old Roman aqueduct). We are professors at UNC Greensboro. We rent a fully furnished apartment on Airbnb, and we've set it up as we would like it if we were traveling. Aaron lived in this condo for a few years before we moved in together. After leasing it long term for a few years, we now use it to host our parents, family, and friends when they come to visit. In addition, we make it available to short term renters like yourself!

We live less than 10 minutes (and work less than 5 minutes) away by car, so if you need something, we're very close. Otherwise, you are completely independent in this apartment.
