Large newly restored studio apartment attached to a single family home nestled in a quiet pastoral setting just outside the Village of Chatham, NY. Your private entrance leads to a bright 20' X 40' room, and includes a full bathroom, kitchen (no cooktop or oven) with a 2nd floor view of the countryside. The host lives full time in the main house.

The rental space is one large newly renovated studio with a queen size antique brass bed, kitchen table and chairs, futon (that can accommodate 2 extra people), couch, flat screen cable TV, a full sized bathroom, lots of windows/skylight, a kitchen that has a full size refrigerator, sink, microwave oven, Keurig coffee maker (coffee/tea and half & half provided), toaster oven, but NO cooktop or oven. This is on the 2nd floor and there are 13 stairs with the appropriate hand-railing. Wildlife abounds as we are surrounded by open fields and woods which you are welcome to explore. Conveniently located near Chatham's walkable Main St. with independent cafes, fine dining, bookstore, microbrewery and the historic Crandell Theatre, we are less than 2 miles from the Taconic State Parkway, 13 miles to the lively city of Hudson and just 20 minutes to all the Berkshires has to offer. You will need a car while visiting, as there is no real public transportation, and parking is conveniently located just outside the apartment. Our views of 30 to 40 miles encourage you to relax with the sunsets, or get energized with the sunrises with a walk in Borden's Conservation area which is just at the edge of our property.

We think this little pocket of the Hudson Valley is quite unique as we are close to many cultural attractions but still nestled in quiet pastoral settings. You can actually see the stars at night and in the distance the lights of our capital, Albany. We have a real Main Street in our own small village which is very quaint and offers retail, restaurants, and other businesses that are still family owned, and where parking is easy and free. Within a few miles we have stage theatre, indoor and outdoor art galleries, the local park to swim, lots of places to hike well groomed trails, farmers' markets, a vaudeville era movie theatre, public libraries, and the list could go on and on. And if you head 20 minutes East you'll hit the Berkshires with Tanglewood/Lenox, The Clark/Williamstown, the Norman Rockwell Museum and Stockbridge, just to mention a few attractions. The City of Hudson is just 13 miles to the South and offers more restaurants, galleries and antique shops, Olana and the Hudson River.

Susan has retired from a varied professional background in higher education, counseling, and running her own retail and import wholesale businesses, and now spends full time as a wanna-be farmer taking care of the family homestead. She has a deep respect for all the flora and fauna that shares her property, and spends considerable time and energy with her perennial gardens and raising her own vegetables and herbs. Though the rental space is attached to a single family home it is a separate unit in and of itself, and guests will not be obliged to have contact with the hosts if they are looking for privacy. On the other hand we have lived in this area for a long time and are interested in making your stay as comfortable as possible and would be very pleased to offer recommendations of any kind. We live in our home full time and are therefore readily available for our guests' needs. Having traveled extensively we would be happy to share in your exploration of our most wonderful spot should you wish to do so.
