You can step into “Shoutouan” and enjoy the lesson surrounded by the Japanese garden and the unique architecture “Sukiyazukuri”.

First of all, I would like to tell you the origin and history of Matcha, relationship to Zen, and about Sen no Rikyu, our first tea master.
Then I would show you the most important spiritual four characters “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku” that he taught us and still alive in our time.

Next, before demonstrating how to make the thin tea which process you can hardly see, I could tell you some basic manners as a guest.

I hope you can find “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku” in every act I do, while you’re taking Japanese sweets and a bowl of green tea I serve you.
It’s my pleasure to explain where they are, for sharing the very deep world of the Way of Tea with you.
After all, you can enjoy to make your own tea and taste it.

If you want to get valuable souvenirs (updated their photos here) selected from my favorite local supplier of utensils, please let me know when you apply this site.
Airbnb would charge you an extra fee(¥5000) for it later.

I truly hope this experience will be unforgettable and the souvenirs will remind you of the memories in beautiful Kanazawa.

I’m Tomomi, an instructor of the Way of Tea in Kanazawa, which once was a great castle town of the Kaga Domain Maeda Family.
They were instrumental in developing traditional Japanese high culture including the Way of Tea, and ordinary people here have been enjoyed it.

I’ve been living here, got some licenses at Ura Tea school and studied how to better explain and demonstrate it in English in Seattle, USA.

In my private life, I've been working as a pharmacist and raising up four children.
As a wife and mother, as a resident of this historical city, as a person who wants to contribute to a healthy life both physically and spiritually, and as a supporter for cultural succession, I would like to share the Way of Tea, Japanese culture, food and cuisine, sightseeing spot, history, ordinary life style in Kanazawa with you.

Tomomi was a warm and engaging host who was able to discuss and demonstrate a very special event- The Way with Tea. It is a unique experience for Westerners and gives you a glimpse of Japanese and Zen traditions. Tomomi was generous with her tea and sweets and it was fun making my own tea. The setting at the old tea house was extra special. It felt an authentic experience. Highly recommend.

Merci Tomomi :)

Very special experience. Tomomi-sama is so welcoming and professional, but also good at putting you at ease. Tea ceremonies are usually so formal, but this is more like a behind-the-scenes experience where you can see a formal ceremony, but also participate and learn. The tea house is lovely, next to a perfect little garden. The matcha and snacks were excellent quality. Tomomi-sama speaks English well, which she says she learned from YouTube videos! We are only halfway through our stay in Japan, but I’m sure this will be one of the best parts!

The tea ceremony with Tomomi was one of the highlights in our travel by Japan. She was very enthusiastic and happy to show us the way of the tradition of tea in this beautiful country. Also, the house of tea is pretty! This is a gem of the japanese culture. You should do that! Thank you Tomomi for bringing us a great moment with you!!

We had a wonderful experience learning the way of the tea ceremony with Tomomi. We weren't quite sure where to meet her, but the friendly staff inside the museum was able to point us in the right direction. After explaining the philosophy and history of the ceremony, she demonstrated the proper service and then let us try serving each other! Definitely recommend.
