Co będziecie robić

Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” In this half day workshop I invite you to tap into your artistic nature and join me in creating unique Lampwork glass beads. Lampworking is a process in which a torch is used to melt rods of glass into a bead.

We will meet at my charming and cozy home studio. After going over the glossary of terms, our safety procedures, and a tour of my studio, we will begin creating our first basic, handcrafted beads using techniques that I am constantly refining. I’ll teach you techniques on how to decorate and shape the beads you make.

About half way through our workshop we will take a half-hour break to stretch our legs and have a quick snack. You are welcome at this time to enjoy the fresh air and explore the lush wooded hiking trails on the property. After our refreshing break, we will finish our beads.

Come to this workshop with a sense of curiosity and leave knowing that you have personally created a few one of a kind works of art.
Other things to note
After completing a bead it is put into a kiln overnight to cool slowly for strength and durability. You are welcome to return the next day to pick your beads up, or I can ship them to you at no additional cost if it’s more convenient.

Hi, I'm Cindy Erickson. For the last six years I have been the owner, artist and designer at One Big Tree Designs. My work has been accepted into many juried art shows over the years and my beads have been published in three trade magazines. I’ve often been told that my work has inspired others to create beautiful things for themselves and for others, and to think outside the box to up-cycle everyday items into wonderful works of art.

My expertise is in Lampworking. I have studied this unique art form with some of the best instructors in the country and I am continually honing my skills. In keeping with my desire to be sustainable, I love creating beads using bottles or glassware that I break with a hammer and melt on my torch. You will enjoy using the beads that we create together in jewelry or to incorporate into gifts.

Gdzie będziecie

My home and studio are nestled in what we affectionately call the "Enchanted Forest" on the Northern Oregon Coast just twenty minutes from the quaint coastal villages of Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler. We are across scenic Highway 53, also known as the Necanicum Highway, from the North Fork of the Nehalem River and the Nehalem Fish Hatchery.

My friend and I had an absolutely wonderful time learning glass bead making with Cindy! She was a thorough and encouraging instructor and a gem of a person. She made us feel very welcome and at home. It was a truly delightful afternoon!

I'd always wanted to try working with glass, and Cindy's woodland experience fit the bill! Step by step she walks you through the creative process - first demonstrating proper glass-working technique and how to use the tools to handing you the reins and encouraging you as you design your own work of art. It was a relaxing and fun session with a talented artist!

This experience was the most fun I’ve had in a very long time. Not only good company but an amazingly serene location as well as the instruction. Cindy is very knowledgeable and teaches you at your level extremely well. I’d book this one again with no hesitation!

This was an amazing experience! Cindy was such a great teacher. She talked us through what we were doing, demonstrated the task then patiently helped us through the learning process until we were sufficiently comfortable to freestyle. It was awesome!!! My boys have been inspired and motivated beyond belief. Her husband was an amazing wealth of local information , friendly and made us feel like family. They were just a wonderfully outgoing and welcoming couple.

Cindy was a phenomenal host! She was very patient and explanatory throughout the lampworks class. Her property is gorgeous - full of old trees. She talked through the mushrooms she finds on her property. We even got to see a wild newt. Local trail mix and local tea were great. We got to make more beads than we thought we would be able to. And at the end, she gave us the best lunch recommendation we had all trip. This experience was a highlight of Oregon - highly recommend!
