RECOVERY ASSISTANCE DOGS’ DIVINE INSTINCT WELLBEING WORKSHOP 1 Hour Session
RECOVERY Assistance Dogs Workshop is a hands on experience that showcases how dogs can help people find solutions to improve Wellbeing. We will explore how Dogs have Divine Instinct and how this helps to engage people pushed to the margins by the challenges of life.
We will consider how Dogs can build relationships with people that find human friendships difficult.
We see how training dogs is a therapy for Mental Health or Wellbeing and for stillness in the mind by doing activities that look at how:
DOGS CAN COMFORT US
- How dogs help us enjoy the moment and be focused by touching us - Training the Dog to do this. Importance of Social Inclusion in the Community.
Activity 1 – to learn how to train with Positive Reinforcement using a Marker Word, treats & a clicker. Get the dogs attention & charge Marker Word/Clicker so everytime the dog looks at you say good/click then give a treat.
Activity 2 – Discuss the use of touch technique (how would it help a dog regularly touching you with nose/paw? In what ways does it help you? In what ways the dog?) Mention reminders for meds, helping people get up, Social Inclusion touch. Practice getting the dog to touch you.
Activity 3 – Social Inclusion touch – describe how this is useful in the Community (getting dog to focus on you away from public). Practice this.
