Co będziecie robić
Guests will arrive at the depot where they will be greeted by me. We will take an exterior tour of the structure where will we will talk about the history of the building as well as the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (formerly part of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad). We will also discuss the efforts made to save and preserve the building (to the standards of the US Secretary of the Interior) which included moving the building in two pieces. The architecture and materials used (old-growth timber) will be discussed as will the actual filming of "Around the World in 80 Days" (which actually painted the railroad station different colors just for the film as well as adding some architectural details) based off of the original Steampunk author, Jules Verne. The film won the Oscar for "Best Picture" in 1956. We will go into the depot and the old layout will be discussed (separate waiting rooms for the ladies and gentlemen for example) along with some interesting points about Durango, the Railroad and Hollywood. The only way to visit this depot is to either book a stay in it or take a tour of it with me; guests on the tour will have access to the old Station Master's quarters as well. I speak fluent German and am able to also provide a tour in the German language.
I am a Colorado native & have lived in Durango 20 years who rents the Depot as a nightly Airbnb Rental. I taught as a professor & have also served as a firefighter/EMT here for 12 years... I know the community & its history (Durango is the home of a world-famous narrow gauge, steam locomotive railroad line). I’ve also participated in Old West reenactment in Durango. More importantly regarding this train station/film location tour I am the owner of this privately-owned, narrow gauge train station built in 1883 (see my Airbnb listing); I saved it from demolition by having the 2,450sf structure moved & renovated. I did much of the build work myself, & I’m also the designer of the interior and have researched both the railroad history & the film history of it (Oscar-winnning, "Around the World in 80 Days" with David Niven & Shirley MacLaine).
This is an extensive, insider-access only tour of an 1883 train station (single site); much of my previous answer in this application covers the actual tour of the site and building itself, but it is an exterior and interior tour with full-access by me, the renovater and renovation designer (I am a former professor).
