Co będziecie robić

China is home to 55 ethnic minorities. Yi crafts offers authentic experiences of the crafts and cultural traditions of China, especially the beautiful but vanishing traditional handcrafts of its minority ethnicities. Bai stitch resist tie-dye is a traditional craft of the Bai ethnic minority group in Yunnan, southern China. This craft has existed for over 1000 years and is still practiced today. In this 3 hour workshop, led by a member of the Bai people, you will: Learn and practice three traditional stitch resist tie-dye techniques Create your own design based on these techniques, and apply it to a provided tote bag Dye your tote bag in our natural Indigo dye vat and learn about the dyeing process At the mid-point enjoy a relaxing traditional Southern Chinese tea ceremony At the end of the workshop, you will take home your tote bag and practice pieces, and hopefully a new skill!

I am theatre crafts graduates specialised in costumes in the UK. Grew up in Southwestern China as a member of Southern China Bai ethnic minority, from a young age I was exposed to traditional crafts, helping my relatives in a tie-dye workshop and teaching skills to visitors. This planted the seed of my passion for crafts and cultural communication. Being a Bai ethnic minority person and living in London, I found that the diversity of Chinese cultures has still not been fully discovered in the UK, especially the cultures of China’s ethnic minorities. This led me to consider the opportunities for the conservation of ethnic minority craft techniques within a new cultural background. This workshop will deliver authentic Chinese ethnic minority cultural through learning a handcrafts skill and a unique experience in London.
