Co będziecie robić

Visit us at our traditional stone-built Aperanti Agrotourism and join Maroulla in making the cheese that every Cypriot is proud of: halloumi cheese !
We only use goat & sheep milk, following the traditional recipe and the hand-made procedure that has been passed to Maroulla's family from generation to generation. You will be able to assist Maroulla in some of the steps and to try the freshly-made cheeses as soon as they are out of the pot ! And off course you will get soft skin by dipping your hand in the warm milk inside the big pot! Anari cheese (similar to ricotta) is also produced as a by-product during the same process.
At the end of the process, you will try both cheeses directly out of the pot and you will also taste some of our other products (home-made jams, olive pies, olive oil, olives in brine) and enjoy our home-made fresh lemonade.
We will also take you for a short guided walk around our village and you will learn its history and how people were living here 100 years ago.

Myself and my partner Tassos have opened our B&B Aperanti Agrotourism since 2013. We are passionate about food and we grow our own biological vegetables and fruits, which we use in our cuisine. Tassos' mum (Maroulla) comes from a family of shepherds and she learnt to make Halloumi cheese since the age of 12 years old, following the original recipe that her family had passed from generation to generation. People from all over the world had visited our agrotourism to learn how to make halloumi cheese by hand and to try it fresh out of the pot!

Gdzie będziecie

The workshop will be held in the yard of our agrotourism, a 104-year old house built with stones, wood and mud bricks following the traditional architecture of our area. You will learn how people were living and working in these houses a century ago. During the break of the cheese making we will have a short stroll around the village, learning about its history while visiting the main square and walking through narrow picturesque alleys.

This was such a unique experience. Very authentic. Learning old traditional cheese making from locals. Lovely hosts, very warm and friendly, made us feel very welcome. I’m so glad we did this and would really recommend it. The halloumi workshop was great (will definitely try this at home too!), lovely personal tour around the old village, and a delicious lunch to finish it all off. Excellent!!

This is AMAZING! Maybe it’s the best trip on Cyprus we’ve ever had, and yes, no one mentioned but haloumi cheese we made was soooo tasty! I totally recommend.

Highly recommend spending a day with this lovely family at their beautiful home. We had fun learning how to make two types of cheeses, touring their village, and learning about the history and culture of this region. And the lunch was delicious!

We had an absolutely wonderful time, not just learning about how this most iconic of Cypriot cheeses is made but also getting a small taste of life in a traditional Cypriot village. The cheese making process started with the make and we watched Maroulla expertly transform it into the squeeky cheese that I had grown to love in my first few days in Cyprus. She also showed us how to make anari cheese which is similar to Italian ricotta. The process does take time and during one stretch, Sara took us on a walk through the village so we could get an idea of what life is like here. Our time ended with a sampling of foods made by Sara, fellow villagers and of course, the halloumi and anari made by Maroulla. If you've never had fresh made cheese, you are truly missing out so if you are in Cyprus, I would highly recommend booking this experience!
