White House with former Kennedy staffer
This is a walking and history tour that walks the complete outside circumference of the gated portion of the White House. Prior to 09/11, as a former White House staffer, I could simply show my ID and take visitors in for a tour. That perk evaporated on 09/12/2001, and inside tours must be requested through a member of Congress. An external, walking tour is the next best thing to a tour inside, with my sharing features of major rooms in the White House, the West Wing, and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where my office was when I worked at the White House. In addition to the history of the building and stories about some of its occupants, you get the perspective of a former White House staffer who worked for two US presidents and on the campaigns of two candidates who did not win the presidency. I have met every president who has served during my lifetime, from FDR through the current president. The meet place is outside the White House Visitor Center, on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets, NW. The walk begins by passing through the recently dedicated National World War I Memorial, and proceeds past the Sherman Monument to the Ellipse on the side of the White House, with stories, photographs, and opportunities for questions. Continuing toward the official front of the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we pass the first headquarters of the America

Handmade botanical bas-relief
A botanical bas-relief is a three-dimensional image of plants obtained by casting gypsum into a clay mold with plant prints. Having mastered the technology of botanical bas-relief, you can create a very unusual item for interior decor. A feature of such handicraft art is the preservation of all the features of natural material. Flower prints are always an experiment. You will never get two identical copies. Each image is unique and inimitable. In my studio we will create a bas-relief of flowers that will keep the mood of summer for many years to come. I will tell you about the materials used, explain the sequence of actions when creating a bas-relief and share the compositional rules for placing the materials.

Coffee & Conversation with Policy Maker & Nonprofit Leader
You will embrace both the immense power and the powerlessness that lies within the United States' capital city, Washington, DC, in one truly rewarding and non-partisan day. Over a locally brewed coffee or tea, you’ll get to learn from a former federal policy maker and a non-profit leader about some of the biggest social injustices and inequities occurring today that often overlap -- including mass incarceration, racial inequity, and more that all tie into homelessness and other prevailing social issues. The conversation will have a local DC and USA focus, which is approached with humility and learning by all. What most people find rewarding is you’ll also receive training to communicate with vulnerable people, including local residents at-risk of and experiencing homelessness. You'll learn a repeatable, quick and simple way to introduce yourself, learn their story, and even help them connect them to nearby verified housing, career, and social services they need that day. After, we will celebrate our new perspectives having learned from each other. You’ll then find yourself next to major monuments, museums, and attractions. Local suggestions available that align with topics discussed + personal interests. Other things to note All remains the same, rain or shine. Walk and talk + coffeehouse. Special rate for groups, including Corporate Social Responsibility team building.
Bracelet making in 100-year-old building
We will begin with a peek in the Boutique, featuring jewelry handcrafted by award-winning US artists, and a behind-the-scenes look at my working jewelry studio. I will also share some history of my 1890 building, including a copy of the handwritten deed to the original house. In the workshop you will use a combination of specialized jeweler's hand tools (the same that were used to make jewelry in the 19th century) and modern equipment to make your bracelet. First, you will hammer steel letter stamps to impress inspirational words, phrases, and designs of your choice onto a copper strip. Then, you will form the strip into a cuff bracelet with hammers and steel tools, oxidize (blacken) the metal, and polish to your desired finish. You will go home with a meaningful piece of jewelry that you created with your own hands. We limit the workshop to eight students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates. You can relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Other things to note Our studio workstations are separated by plexiglass barriers. Hand sanitizer, masks, and disposable smocks are available. Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.

Explore the History of Black Georgetown
This walking tour starts at 3206 O Street NW DC and ends at the Mt. Zion/Female Union Band Cemetery at 2501 Mill Rd. NW. There is a half-way stop at Thomas Sweet Shop for a bathroom break and refreshment. Description: This indepth tour takes guests on a journey through the African American history of Georgetown, a now-exclusive neighborhood in Washington, DC. However, this charming area that boasts high-end shopping and gourmet restaurants has a diverse past. At one point African Americans counted for as much as 30% of the Georgetown population. Descendants of enslaved peoples and free black folk have lived in Georgetown for generations, but their contributions to its history do not often receive recognition. This tour will reveal the stories of the black citizens who made their mark on one of DC’s oldest neighborhoods.

Among the historic streets, manicured gardens and Victorian row houses of DC’s finest neighborhood lie deep, dark secrets about a forgotten past. Come along to hear stories from long ago that trace the development of Gerorgetown from a small tobacco port to a major commercial trading center. Many important historical figures have lived or stayed here and documented their experiences in letters and journals. Some of these folks have never left, haunting these grand residences to this day... On this family friendly tour you will learn about this town and be enchanted by its past, present, and future. The stories we tell are based on historic records and will include tales of lost love, revenge, and madness! This is a quintessential ghost tour, set in a charming old city that, when the sun goes down, sets the stage for a spooky night out with your friends.
